Tucked away in a corner of the West Country is Exmoor National Park, with its unique and beautiful landscape. Exmoor's special qualities were officially recognised in 1954 when it was given National Park status to help conserve the area's natural beauty and wildlife.
The pupils of the Federation have many opportunities to experience the nature and surroundings of the National Park and use the environment regularly in their learning. The Junior Rangers of Dulverton Middle Schools work closely with the National Park Rangers, building up their own skills and knowledge whilst contributing their enthusiasm and efforts. We are proud that we can offer such a rich way of learning within our unique local area during every season.
Our three schools are in Dulverton (All Saints C of E First and Dulverton Middle and Community Schools) and Exford (Exford C of E First School) Dulverton can be considered to be the Southern gateway to Exmoor and stands between the rivers Barle and Exe which converge a mile or so down the valley. Standing next to the Barle at the western end of Dulverton is Exmoor House, the headquarters of the Exmoor National Park Authority. There are a number of quality boutiques and interesting gift shops, with tea rooms and restaurants serving quality local produce. Just along the road is the National Park Visitor Centre, which shares premises with the local public library.
Based centrally within the beautiful moorland and rolling hills of Exmoor, Exford village is a community based very much around agriculture and tourism, It lies on the river Exe, at the heart of Exmoor National Park, with its attractive village green surrounded by shops, restaurants and hotels. It is a busy walking, fishing and equine centre and is surrounded by stunning scenery.
You will find a quality of life in this area which has long since disappeared in many urban areas. We cherish the benefits of our rural communities and also look outwards to learn from the wider world. Our schools provide a curriculum full of real experiences and enrichment fused together with a learning environment bristling with technology to access other places and peoples.
The Federation of Exford and Dulverton Schools looks forward to meeting you.
